Eric Standley draws his themes from Islamic and Gothic architecture and art from the 12th century. By utilizing a laser cutting system he is capable of trimming and shaping individual layers of paper in order to produce these eye catching works often times composed of hundreds of sheets. The layers when composed into a finale piece have a quality of spacial awareness. The ability to peel away the layers delicately show the viewer a sense of process and scale. Eric received his B.F.A. from the Massachusetts College of Art and his M.F.A. from Savannah College of Art and Design and is now an Associate Professor of Studio Art for the School of Visual Arts at Virginia Tech.
